In the 1870’s, there was a push by watch manufacturers to produce a pocket watch for every buyer. Before that, watches were an expensive item. Watch companies started to produce what they would call “The Dollar Watch”. A dollar in 1870 had as much buying power as $154 USD does now. So while it wasn’t a cheap watch, it was cheaper than the other models. These Dollar Watches were made with the most simple and cheapest parts. This single crescent shaped watch plate, most likely came from a Dollar Watch in the 1870’s. This has a large Topaz in the center and several Swarovski crystals.
