This pendant was made from watch movement cover piece from a pocket watch movement, possibly made in the 1600’s. During this time, watches were only made for the wealthy and the watch movement itself was frequently covered with metal filigree and engravings. This piece is one such filigree parts and most likely covered the main hairspring. The Hairspring or balance wheel, is what causes the arm to move left and right in rhythm and each time it moves back and forth, it moves a notched wheel one time, which moves the second hand on the dial. This watch part has a Malachite cabochon attached to the front and hangs with a silver-plated bail and chain.
